In the first half of the year, liquid soda ash prices generally fluctuated downward, with only a brief surge in March due to geopolitical risks in the Middle East. Taking Shandong 32% liquid soda ash as an example, the average price in the first half of the year was 673.1 yuan/ton, a year-on-year decrease of 25.19%. The main reason for the sluggish prices was the supply-demand imbalance: On the supply side, the operating rate increased to 88.96% year-on-year, output increased by 3.78%, and inventory was high; on the demand side, domestic consumption was weak, with only exports showing a temporary increase (exports increased by 20.7% year-on-year from January to May).
Looking ahead to the second half of the year, new production capacity will continue to be released, demand will remain lukewarm, and export support may weaken, but costs will limit the decline. The average price of Shandong 32% liquid soda ash in the second half of the year is expected to be around 656 yuan/ton, a decrease of 2.54% compared to the first half of the year, with an average monthly operating range of 635-685 yuan/ton.
