Innovation in slow-release and efficiently-enhancing fertilizer technology helps reduce the use of chemical fertilizers while increasing their efficiency and improving the quality of cultivated land
Under the dual goals of ensuring food security and promoting green agricultural development, China's fertilizer industry is accelerating its transformation towards being highly efficient, slow-release, environmentally friendly and precisely tailored to the needs of crops.
Under the dual goals of ensuring food security and promoting green agricultural development, China's fertilizer industry is accelerating its transformation towards being highly efficient, slow-release, environmentally friendly and precisely tailored to the needs of crops. Recently, new fertilizer technologies such as slow-release nitrogen fertilizers, stable compound fertilizers, and functional water-soluble fertilizers have been widely demonstrated and promoted in many regions across the country. By regulating the rate of nutrient release, they enhance fertilizer utilization efficiency and reduce nutrient loss, providing strong support for stable and increased yields of crops like wheat, rice, corn, vegetables, and fruit trees, as well as improving the quality of cultivated land.
Traditional chemical fertilizers, after being applied to the soil, are prone to volatilization, leaching and loss, with a low utilization rate. This not only increases the planting cost but may also have an impact on the water environment. Slow-release and efficiency-enhancing fertilizers employ technologies such as multi-layer coating, carrier complexation, and inhibitor compounding to match the nutrient release curve with the absorption pattern of crops. This ensures a continuous and stable supply of nutrients during the growth period of crops, reduces the frequency of top dressing, simplifies field management, and lowers labor intensity. Field trial data show that this type of fertilizer can increase crop yields under the same application amount, maintain stable yields even under reduced application conditions, and at the same time improve the crop's resistance to lodging, diseases and stress.
